2:30 PM.......... Life Safety Code: The Beginning and the Means of Egress

Learning Objectives:

  • Explain how the Life Safety Code began and why it is necessary.
  • Define who the Authorities Having Jurisdiction are and what role they play with the Life Safety Code
  • Explain the difference between the fundamental chapters and the occupancy chapters in the Life Safety Code.
  • Interpret the presenter’s summary on what the basic premise is for the Life Safety Code.

8:30 AM......... Life Safety Code: From Egress Components to ‘Exit’ Signs

  • Define which components of egress are permitted in hospitals and which are not.
  • Learn which component in the means of egress is considered to be the most basic and fundamental of all components.
  • Understand the limitations placed on locking doors in the path of egress
  • Describe how, when and where ‘Exit’ signs are required in hospitals

10:30 AM......... Challenges to Life Safety Compliance

Learning Objectives:

  • Discuss the common challenges found in hospitals to life safety compliance.
  • Summarize the three basic challenges to life safety compliance and explain the strategy to overcome them.
  • Discuss what the surveyors are looking for during the building tour.

1:00 PM......... Documentation Required for the Life Safety Survey

Learning Objectives:

  • Explain why life safety drawings are so important in the survey process.
  • Learn what the major deficiencies are in the fire alarm, fire pump and sprinkler systems test reports.
  • Understand the certification requirements for everyone who performs service, testing and inspections on the fire alarm system.
  • Identify the requirements for fire drills.
  • Learn what you can do to make the document review session a success.
